What the packaging rightly calls the "revolution" accomplished during the Italian Baroque was first and foremost a matter of vocal music.

The Baroque (UK: /bəˈrɒk/, US: /bəˈroʊk/) is a highly ornate and often extravagant style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th until the mid-18th century. It followed Renaissance art and Mannerism and preceded the Rococo (in the past often referred to as "late Baroque") and Neoclassical styles.

Chapter 3 - The Italian baroque revolution. Publisher: Cambridge University Press. From the seventeenth century onwards there is useful evidence from a much broader range of sources and it confirms the seminal nature of Italian ideas on singing throughout Europe. The ideological continuity from the classical world through to the medieval period underwent a radical change of emphasis when, as Anderson (1987, p. 148) put it, ‘the Renaissance discovered itself with a new, intense consciousness of rupture and loss’.

Musique de la révolution française. I-Catalogue NumberI-Cat. 1. Rouget de Lisle: Chant de guerre pour l'armée du Rhin 'La Marseillaise' (1792-93) (arr. 2 voices, mixed chorus, wind band). 2. Méhul: Ouverture en fa (1793) (originally for wind band). 3. Catel: La Bataille de Fleurus (1794) ("Hymne patriotique", arr. mixed chorus, wind band). Of the original instrumentations for the purely instrumental pieces, the Méhul is known but the two by Catel are not. Of Catel, Grove Music says "Between 1792 and 1797 he composed many Revolutionary hymns, marches and military symphonies, and during the late 1790s wrote chamber music".

Baroque painting is the painting associated with the Baroque cultural movement. The movement is often identified with Absolutism, the Counter Reformation and Catholic Revival, but the existence of important Baroque art and architecture in non-absolutist and Protestant states throughout Western Europe underscores its widespread popularity.

La Révolution surréaliste was a magazine published by the Surrealists in Paris. Twelve numbers appeared between 1924 and 1929. Scans at Arcane 17 (ZIP'd JPGs). HTML versions at Melusine. La Révolution surréaliste in the Marxists Internet Archive.

Baroque Baroque Revolution. Chapter · January 2011 with 5 Reads. In this groundbreaking book, Gunther Kress considers the effects of a revolution that has radically altered the relationship between writing and the book.
