Patrick Cassidy - Famine Remembrance download flac
From the album "Famine Remembrance".
This is not officially a classical requiem, but I couldn't help comparing Cassidy's Famine Remembrance with some of the greats by Faure and Brahms or the St. John's Passion by J. S. Bach; their works gave me clues to why Cassidy's effort falls flat. Although there are many noble and moving moments in the work, the whole sounded dampened and soggy.
Patrick Cassidy is at his best on this CD. Every time I listen I'm lifted up to a place that feels so wonderful. I never tire of this music. The chorus and soloists are simply the best, which this hauntingly beautiful music definitely deserves. The orchestra never disappoints. The Irish potato famine is a most melancholy subject, of course, but the music takes you through many emotions and somehow ends up causing me to reflect on both sad times and happier moments. It's simply some of the best classical music I've ever heard.
