is the seventh album Thelonious Monk released for Columbia Records, featuring several original compositions as well as jazz standards. The track "Pannonica" is a tribute to the jazz patron Nica de Koenigswarter. The track "Teo" is a tribute to the albums' producer Teo Macero. The album cover is a photo of Monk taken by W. Eugene Smith in 1959. Between 1957 and 1965, Monk and other prominent New York jazz musicians rehearsed at the photographer's home, nicknamed 'The Jazz Loft'.

This album is a dream come true for me, and probably for other Monk fans, and especially those of us who love his collaborations with Charlie Rouse. For me this two hour set of albums has additional value because I am also a fan of Frankie Dunlop who is on drums. What makes me rave is the fact that the original Riverside albums did not capture the complete concerts (although the Milan album came close).
