Artist: Junior Brooks. Album: Stop Messin' Around, 2013. This video is for historical and educational purposes. Junior Brooks (nicknamed "Crippled Red") was a blues singer from Pine Bluff, AR. He worked the local club scene with his fellow musicians Baby Face Turner, Elmon "Driftin' Slim" Mickle, and Sunny Blair. The Bihari brothers that owned the Modern/RPM record labels held two sessions in Little Rock in 1951 and '52 to record some of the local talent. Recorded in Little Rock, AR. 1951.
The series of blues albums on the Bihari’s Kent Records label included compilations of blues recordings from Memphis, Arkansas, Detroit, Mississippi, Texas, West Coast and California blues. These sets were compiled by US collectors Frank Scott and Bruce Bromberg who were allowed to mine the Bihari’s vaults and issued as part of the "Anthology Of The Blues" 12 volume album series
Little Sammy Davis (November 28, 1928 – February 16, 2018) was an American blues musician based in New York's Hudson Valley. His music career began in the 1940s, but he was not widely known until the mid-1990s, when he began working in radio, singing, performing on tour, and recording studio albums. Davis was born in Winona, Mississippi, and raised in a one-room shack. He learned to play the harmonica at the age of eight
Most of the sides found their way to releases on the Modern family of labels, though some of them appear here for the first time. The 1949 Fulson single on the CD is barely urbanized rural blues, and while much of the rest of the disc is more in line with the more refined, more jazzy ballad-tinged form of West Coast blues, it often has a gloomier aura than most such music.
