The compilation features three shows from three distinct stages in the band's career - a TV appearance in Toronto, Canada in 1967, a Danish TV special during the Doors only European tour in 1968 and an appearance on PBS's Critique show in 1969. Also included is Jim Morrison's only on camera interview.
It is good to see the band playing these songs live without the orchestral arrangements which the album has. They sound very different in my opinion.

The Doors Soundstage Performances are a truly unique compilation of three completely different Doors performances at three distinct stages in their career. The concept of the "Soundstage Performances" laid the way to assemble all three appearances. The majority of the material has never been seen before. Not only is it rare but it is startlingly great. This is a 2 hr DVD featuring vintage Doors' stage performances spaning several phases of the band's evolution. Along the way you get insightful dialogue from surviving Doors' members(zarek) along with former manager Danny Sugerman. Their discussion include topics such as Morrison, The Miami Incident, meanings of certain famous Doors' songs, etc.
The Doors eponymous first album is universally regarded as their finest achievement and as one of the greatest debut albums in the history of rock music making it a worthy addition to the acclaimed Classic Albums series. Ray Manzarek, plus the two surviving members of The Doors, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore are all featured in new interviews along with original engineer Bruce Botnick, musicians Henry Rollins and Perry Farrell and executives Billy James (Columbia Records) and Jac Holzman (Elektra Records) plus many more. The concept of the Soundstage Performances laid the way to assemble all three appearances. Not only is it rare, but it is startlingly great.
The album features their breakthrough single "Light My Fire" and the lengthy song "The End" with its Oedipal spoken word section. The Doors was released on January 4, 1967 by Elektra Records. It made a steady climb up the Billboard 200, ultimately becoming a huge success in the US once "Light My Fire" scaled the charts, with the album peaking at No. 2 on the chart in September 1967 (stuck behind The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) and going on to achieve multi-platinum status.
