Want The Soft Moon was never intended for the public’s ears, but you found it, were drawn in by its danger, and insisted that others hear. Now, because the word has spread, the Soft Moon waxes again, returning with a most vicious, seething and focused second album: Zeros. There’ve been some changes. Zeros is the second full-length studio album by American post-punk band the Soft Moon. It was released on October 30, 2012 by Captured Tracks. The theme of the record has been described as post-apocalyptic. Comparing the record to previous releases, Vasquez told Fact Magazine, "My approach for Zeros was to be more conceptual, thematic, and visual
Zeros (LP, Album, Ltd, RP, Sil).
In general, the Soft Moon are less song-based, more sound-based and image-based (in an earlier incarnation, visual artist Ron Robinson was considered part of the band). That said, each collection features a couple of dark-hearted anthems: On The Soft Moon it was "Out of Time" and closer "Tiny Spiders", on Total Decay it was the swirling, heaving title track . The last song on Zeros, "ƨbnƎ ƚI", bookends (and mirrors) the howling, apocalyptic opener "It Ends". In interviews, Vasquez's said he wanted to make one more album by himself before expanding to a full-band recording. This is that final solo album. It'll be curious to see what happens if he does decide to open up the laboratory and welcome in his supporting cast.
