On returning to England it took a while to figure out what exactly the tunes on the tape were, but by chance and with help from more knowledgeable friends, names like Finis Africae, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Paul Winter and Dancing Fantasy helped solve the mystery. I didn't go back to Ibiza in 1992, but recorded a couple of cassettes with mellow Ibiza type music on, and asked a friend to give them to the dj at the cafe. In November 1992, Mison was hanging out in Tag Records, Soho, when Padilla walked in. He plucked up the courage to speak to the Spaniard because earlier that summer Mison had given one of his friends some tapes to take out to Jose in Ibiza so he wanted to see if he had got them. Out Of The Blue' is a 14 track journey through the hot and hazy hedonistic days and nights on the White Isle. The compilation promises to be Mison's most personal one, drawing influence from his own journey on the island. A loved-up album that was inspired by Phil's first experience of playing in Ibiza- behind the decks at Café Del Mar in 1993- and the events that led up to that point

Out of the Blue is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Debbie Gibson, released in August 1987. Gibson personally wrote all ten songs on this album.

Phil Mison or perhaps better known by his recording name, Cantoma, is one of the UK’s premier Chill out DJ’s. One of the leaders of this small but eclectic group of DJ’s he got his first break warming up for Darren Emmerson in 1991.

Ever since his 1993 debut at Ibiza's Cafe Del Mar, Phil Mison has been one of the key forces behind Balearic music, and one of the main reasons it's enjoying such a resurgence at the moment. A true Balearic set will be eclectic, wandering far beyond the confines of house music, and Mison's upcoming Out Of The Blue comp is one of the finest examples out there. That basically sets the tone for the rest of the album, which takes you through ambient electronics, various shades of jazz, and mind-expanding sonics. For anyone looking to educate themselves on the finer points of Balearic - or to soundtrack their next rty by the beach - then Out Of The Blue will be essential when it drops June 9. Absolutely essential. Some blissful island-vibe music on this one, as well as two jazzy deep house classics (B3, C2).LINER NOTES:Like countless others, I made the pilgrimage in my youth to the Spanish island of Ibiza to enjoy the delights of its nightlife. We arrived at night, checked our bags into our rooms in Ibiza Town and headed out. The following day there was talk of visiting the Cafe Del Mar, situated by the sea over in San Antonio. On arriving late in the afternoon, we got a table and just sat there taking it all in. Some of the music sounded familiar, but most of it did not, and it fitted perfectly with the decor, atmosphere and surroundings. There was a dj playing in the corner, and I wandered over to have a peak at the records he was playing and to buy a couple of tapes that he was rumoured to be selling. As the sun set to Jack Nitzsche's 'Starman' (as I later found out) I thought, yep, this is the place for me.On returning to England it took a while to figure out what exactly the tunes on the tape were, but by chance and with help from more knowledgeable friends, names like Finis Africae, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Paul Winter and Dancing Fantasy helped solve the mystery. I didn't go back to Ibiza in 1992, but recorded a couple of cassettes with mellow Ibiza type music on, and asked a friend to give them to the dj at the cafe. Around November that year I was in Tag Records in Soho, London when someone walked in who looked vaguely familiar. I asked him if he was the dj from the Cafe Del Mar, and when he answered yes I enquired whether he got my tapes? After a bit of confusion, he remembered getting them and said that he liked the music. We did the introductions, and he told me his name was Jose Padilla. I was resident on a Monday at Nicky Holloway's club The Milk Bar at the time, so invited Jose down. He came there a few times in the following weeks, and in early '93 told me he had received an offer to go to Asia to dj for the whole of April and would I like to fill in for him at the Cafe Del Mar while he was away? Of course I said yes, and armed with a plane ticket and the keys to his house, set off for a bit of an adventure.I just had a fantastic time over the next few weeks, discovered a lot of new music and met some great people. There were no other bars either side of the cafe at that time, so on special days you could play a track like Brian Eno's 'Always Returning' and it just seemed like there was near silence. Jose asked me if I wanted to be resident the next year for the whole summer, and without that opportunity I probably wouldn't be doing this compilation, making music or still dj'ing. So for that Señor Padilla, I say muchos gracias. The music on this compilation is made up of tracks that were played during those years in Ibiza and more recent discoveries that still reflect the magic and feeling of those times.Phil Mison - January 2017~ TRACK BPMs:A1: 97 | A2: 99 | A3: 90B1: 81 | B2: 93 | B3: 120C1: 110 | C2: 121 | C3: 107 | C4: 114D1: 90 | D2: 110 | D3: 122 | D4: 105

Something that was missing from the Balearic genre ''record industry'', the unique sound that could be found only on old Phil Mison's mixtapes 'til now. The best Balearic (as the genre existed in the start of its second decade) compilation of the year by one of the personalities who devoted a whole life in the magic of White Island scenes, culture, life and sunsets.
