Tom Jones, real name Thomas John Woodward KBE (born 7 June 1940), is a Welsh singer whose career has spanned six decades, from his emergence as a vocalist in the mid-1960s with a string of top hits, regular touring, appearances in Las Vegas (1967–2011), and career comebacks. Jones's powerful voice has been described as a "full-throated, robust baritone". His performing range has included pop, rock, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, soul and gospel.

In 1987, Jones returned to the UK and quickly re-established himself as a recording artist with a song that reached No. 2, "A Boy From Nowhere" (from the unstaged musical "Matador"). It proved a worldwide hit and won an MTV award. The 1990s proved Jones' versatility as he collaborated with numerous well known artists, culminating with the 1999 album "Reload".
Here, Etta Jones' swinging singing is augmented with Oliver Nelson's attractive and distinctive arrangements. Wally Richardson's guitar is especially noteworthy in the rhythm section, while Nelson's use of horns and strings is as wonderful as ever. From the Heart is a lot of fun, a too-long-forgotten gem that takes the listener back to a more innocent time and provides the perfect setting for Etta Jones to display her vocal wares.
Emerging from a small Welsh town like a black-haired tornado, Jones won the hearts and panties of scores of women on both sides of the Atlantic with his roguish good looks, bodybuilder's physique, impressive vocal range, impassioned and wonderfully melodramatic delivery, and those oh-so-tight pants which left nothing to the imagination. Emerging during the British Invasion of the mid-1960s, Jones had quite a bit in common with pop singers who flexed their vocal muscle over heavily orchestrated arrangements.
