Tricks of the Shade is the debut studio album by The Goats, released in 1992 by Ruffhouse Records.
The Mountain Goats' latest is a gothic-themed concept album, a foray into the world of guitar-less music, and one of the greatest testaments to John Darnielle's chops as a storyteller.

Goths is the sixteenth studio album by the Mountain Goats, released on May 19, 2017, on Merge Records. The band has stated that Goths was inspired by an adolescence listening to The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division, as well as hearing songs on the Californian radio station KROQ-FM
The album has a nice fuller rounder sound, lyrically strong and with just some great and interesting tracks. Other highlights songs for me are "Sax Rohmer and "San Bernardino". The Mountain Goats have such an expansive discography that the albums that resonate with someone is usually a very personal experience.
Goths, the latest from the Mountain Goats, is about the journey between life in the dark and death in the light, and ultimately trying to find a home somewhere between. That elusive, literary home for John Darnielle-the lead singer and songwriter of the Mountain Goats for 26 years-has been a theme in his writing lately. Whether on his 2015 album Beat the Champ or in his 2017 novel Universal Harvester, Darnielle writes about the larger, decades-long journeys that play out in the rural American diaspora.
Goats Head Soup was the last album Jimmy Miller produced for The Stones. His drug addiction had progressed to the point that he was less productive and the leadership void was filled by The Glimmer Twins. Over the next few years The Glimmer Twins would be the primary producer of their records. Goats Head Soup is a strong but unique record in The Stones discography. In many ways it is a transitional album, moving away from the more roots oriented blues, r&b and 50's rock sounds of their previous efforts and more towards the funk, soul, piano ballads and glam rock sounds that would define their mid to late seventies output.

Goths is The Mountain Goats' 16th studio album, released on 19 May 2017. A big instrumental step by the band –which built its reputation on bare-bones, acoustic guitar-centric songs– Goths is the first Mountain Goats album not to feature any guitars (besides bass guitar). On guitar, I could do a default rhythm right no. hat people would like, and that’s pretty tempting. But it’s also good to always be thinking about growth, about doing things you haven’t done.
