Moreau specifically considered the implications, dangers, and morality of vivisection. He even touched on what Darwin's ideas of natural selection and evolution-found in On the Origin of Species-meant for civilization and humanity as a whole. As science fiction began to become a full-fledged genre, Wells's novels became a guiding light for how to do things right. The Island of Dr. Moreau became a go-to example of how to craft intelligent and fun stories with that extra ka-pow of social critique

Moreau was so much like Dr. Frankenstein in the fact that they were both irresponsible with their creations. They created these creatures and then left them to fend for themselves. The mad scientist has been with us since the early 1800s. Wells didn't create the mad scientist stereotype, he certainly gave it a boost in his harrowing novella "The Island of Dr. Moreau" - beast-men forced to live like humans, a crazy scientist carrying out mad plans, and a bland Englishman stuck in the middle of it. After he is shipwrecked, the English gentleman Edward Prendick is rescued by a passing boat.

Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946), better known as H. Wells, was an English writer most famous today for his science fiction novels The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The First Men in the Moon and The Island of Doctor Moreau. He was an outspoken socialist, his later works becoming increasingly political and didactic. Only his early science fiction novels are widely read today.

Montgomery is the alcoholic apprentice of Dr. Moreau, an older cryptic scientist who does controversial experiments on a volcanic island. Prendick himself knows a thing or two about biology and learns of Moreau’s experiments. The three men have to act as almost god-like figures over the humanoid creatures of this remote island. However this is no easy task, the creatures are unpredictable and very dangerous. Wells does an outstanding job of making the reader feel pain for both the creatures and the three who watch over them.

Wells was a pioneer in the realm of science fiction. He is often regarded as setting much of the precedent for the genre as it currently exists alongside French novelist Jules Verne, author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth, and even Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, who, like Wells, envisioned the dark possibilities of scientific progress.

Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau comic book series 01 April 2019 Flickeringmyth. Set in the year 2010, Dr. Moreau has successfully combined human and animal DNA to make a crossbreed animal. Well, as usual, something goes wrong and David Thewlis must try to stop it before it is too late. Originally rated R, but cut by Frankenheimer to allow "a wider audience".
