We Are the Romans is the second and final studio album by American metalcore band Botch. A Hydra Head repressing of the vinyl was released on October 25, 2011.
Prince told us to party like it is 1999. In 1999 in Tacoma, Washington the four members of Botch created an album that is considered one of the best within its genre entitled, We Are The Romans. A title that is a statement about the United States thought of immortality, but a realization that we are not. The album cover shows what appears to be New York City with a huge blot of black ink covering the city. Within the blot is a red target, signifying that the United States is indeed a target. The even more disturbing aspect of the art is the fact that when you first open the contents, there is a picture of destroyed buildings

This pressing was hand assembled at our office and we were usually pretty careful in terms of looking through the pressings and catching the special stuff. That said it COULD be that there were a few more. Other Versions (5 of 17) View All.
We Are The Romans is my first Botch album, and I will definitely have to pick up more from one of the defining Hydrahead bands. Too bad they have only one other full-length (American Nervoso) and a criminally short EP (Anthology Of Dead Ends) bookending this, 'cause judging from the sound of this album Botch deserved far, far more press and acclaim than they got in their short lifespan. I'm not quite sure how to define this Seattle outfit's sound. Thomas Howell as the ‘Soul Man’ has been described by the band as satirizing Racetraitor and other bands with these very lofty political ideals that seemed like more a marketing tool for the genre of political hardcore rather than a sincere agenda (Brian Cook). We Are the Romans Q&A.
The specific album most of those ripoffs seem to reference with Botch however is We Are the Romans, the Pacific Northwest sons' devastating, final full-length. But you probably already know that. As for the very album itself, it sounds as meticulously crafted and noisy as it did during its original release. Dave Knudson's mind-bending, angular riffs, effects pedal abusing and pulsating finger-tapping resonates below the time signature changes (those ringing riffs in "Saint Matthew Returns to the Womb" still hauntingly great), while vocalist Dave Verellen still gravelly screams over the ever-changing chaos.
