I saw her stangin' on her front lawn Just twirlin' her baton Me and her went for a ride sir And ten innocent people died From the town of Lincoln Nebraska.

All lyrics from Nebraska album, popular Bruce Springsteen songs with tracklist and information about album.

Nebraska is the sixth studio album by Bruce Springsteen, released on September 30, 1982, by Columbia Records. Sparsely recorded on a 4-track cassette tape Portastudio 144, the songs on Nebraska were originally intended as demos of songs to be recorded with the E Street Band. However, Springsteen ultimately decided to release the demos himself. Nebraska remains one of the most highly regarded albums in his catalog.

Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 solo album Nebraska has been called a folk album, and that’s true to an extent in both its acoustic setting and, on some of the material, in the construction of the songs. But folk songs in the traditional sense are in part defined by how they travel through culture, typically by being played in person for other people. Nebraska invites no such feeling of communion.

Muderous, cold, and bleak, Nebraska captures the pain and turns it into timeless songs for the ages. Muderous, cold, and bleak, Nebraska captures the pain and turns it into timeless songs for the ages. Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen is on Rolling Stone Magazines list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. A demo tape," you say" Well yes, a demo tape.

Released September 30, 1982. Even though Springsteen did not record the album in the same style of famous American lues singer Johnny Cash, he tried to find inspiration for the style and the themes of the album by listening repeatedly to the singles and the albums Cash published for his first label, the Sun Records. Those records featured songs talking about the poors, the beaten down, the prisoners.

But Bruce Springsteen was the first person to act on that theory, when he opted to release the demo versions of his latest songs, recorded with only acoustic or electric guitar, harmonica, and vocals, as his sixth album, Nebraska. It was really the content that dictated the approach, however. Nebraska's ten songs marked a departure for Springsteen, even as they took him farther down a road he'd already been traveling. Gradually, his songs became darker and more pessimistic, and those on Nebraska marked a new low. They also found him branching out into better developed stories

Some of the best song writing you will ever hear and such a great display of Springsteen as a singer-songwriter. The only way that you could go through this whole album and not feel anything is if you are a hollow, apathetic monster or sumthin. 100. Ranking the songs: 10. State Trooper 9. My Father's House 8. Highway Patrolman 7. Johnny 99 6. Open All Night 5. Used Cars 4. Reason to Believe 3. Mansion on the Hill 2. Atlantic City 1. Nebraska

So I have a copy of this with this exact runout groove, but it's marked on the label as QC 38358, not TC 38358. Same barcode as well.

The record where Springsteen cements his reputation as one of the great american short story writers of the 20th century. At least one film has been based on a song from this album (Sean Penn's "The Indian Runner" based on "Highway Patrolman") and i believe that Alexander Payne's film "Nebraska" is partially inspired by the song "Used Cars." One can easily imagine screenplays based on "Atlantic City" and "Johnny 99" as well. How many other records can make this claim? The characters here are all flotsam on the shoulders and off ramps of any number of cold and unfeeling American interstates; some who have lost all purpose in life, some on the run, some hopeful, all of them desperate in Reagan america circa 1982. Springsteen closes the LP's most upbeat song "Open All Night" with the great line, "Hey Mr. DJ, won't you hear my last prayer, hey-ho rock 'n' roll deliver me from nowhere." It's this line that ties the entire record together (and perhaps even Springsteen's entire life) as its so much truer for these characters (and vicariously, ourselves) to believe in the delivering power of song than in most anything else the country had to offer at this time. He closes the album with the hopeful misdirection of "Reason To Believe." Nobody has found that particular "reason" yet, they just hope to find it. Maybe they will and maybe they won't and that's as much optimism this devastating record has to offer.

Album Nebraska was completely taken up by himself on a 4-track recorder and because he was too bad the studio versions, also published on LP and CD
