Erich Leinsdorf (born Erich Landauer; February 4, 1912 – September 11, 1993) was an Austrian-born American conductor. He performed and recorded with leading orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States and Europe, earning a reputation for exacting standards as well as an acerbic personality. He also published books and essays on musical matters.

The music of Elliott Carter is one of the best connections that New Music has to Ives and his generation, including Cowell and Nancarrow. Carter, as catholic in his spools of influences as was Ives, wrote many acclaimed chamber works before his Piano Concerto, played here by Ursula Oppens. But the concerto takes the full weight of the chamber works and sends them loudly and intricately to a higher level, with a more developed hugeness

The Concerto for Piano is a composition for solo piano and orchestra by the American composer Elliott Carter. The work was commissioned by the pianist Jacob Lateiner with support from the Ford Foundation. It was composed between 1964 and 1965 and was first performed at Symphony Hall, Boston on January 6, 1967, by Lateiner and the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the conductor Erich Leinsdorf. The piece was dedicated to the composer Igor Stravinsky for his 85th birthday.

Piano Concerto: I. Fantástico - Jacob Lateiner, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Erich Leinsdorf. 6. Piano Concerto: II. Molto giusto - Jacob Lateiner, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Erich Leinsdorf. More by Elliott Carter. Elliott Carter: 4 Lauds, 3 Duetti & Figments Nos. 1-2. Elliott Carter: 103rd Birthday Concert (Live).

The Piano Concerto (1964-1965) adapts to another musical situation the same preoccupation with expression, physical performance methods and formal processes found in my String Quartet No. 2 (1959) and my Double Concerto for Harpsichord and Piano with Two Chamber Orchestras (1961). As in these, there are variously graded sequential and simultaneous oppositions of dramatic character and material associated with the musical protagonists: here, a concertino of three winds and four solo strings mediates between the individualized solo piano part and the orchestral mass. Jacob Lateiner, piano Boston Symphony Orchestra, Erich Leinsdorf, conductor.

Erich Leinsdorf, Boston Symphony Orchestra I. Allegro moderato. Jacob Lateiner Second Movement: Molto giusto. Boston Symphony Orchestra, Erich Leinsdorf, Itzhak Perlman Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35: II. Canzonetta.
