Miles Davis - Miles Davis In Europe download flac
Miles Davis in Europe is a live album by Miles Davis, released in 1964. It was the first full album by the first incarnation of the "Second Quintet" featuring George Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, whose first recordings with Davis had made up half of the album Seven Steps to Heaven
Recorded Live At The Antibes International Jazz Festival - Juan-Les-Pins, 1963.
The CD cover reproduces the original album art, which mistakenly identifies the recording as stereo; the sound, which is excellent, is actually mono. Total duration 1:20:10.
Similarly, Hancock helps turn the standard "I Thought About You" into an impressionistic and free-flowing ballad allowing Davis to spread wide swaths of tonal color and deep note bends across the stage. Although Coleman would depart the group in less than a year, he proves himself here to be a muscular, keen improviser who deserved more attention than he got at the time.

You get to listen to really nice long versions of many of these songs as they get lost in their music, which is always a delight.
Touring Europe had a profound effect on Davis. In France, he felt respected as an artist without question or caveat: this had never been the case in his racially segregated homeland. Certainly, he was sure he would never have been approached by a movie director during a US nightclub residency and asked to compose music for a film. When Louis Malle made just that offer to Davis in November 1957, Davis accepted the challenge. The album the quintet cut during the first studio visit after the Plugged Nickel shows, Miles Smiles, wrings every last drop of creativity out of a band relishing newly unleashed senses of purpose and possibility. The sessions were quick: a few minutes’ rehearsal, then one live take. The recordings crackle with risk-taking, and it’s difficult not to get swept away by the infectious sense of unshackled creativity every player brought to the table.
