Amon Düül was a German political art commune formed out of the student movement of the 1960s that became well known for its free-form musical improvisations. This spawned two rock groups, Amon Düül (sometimes referred to as Amon Düül I) and the more famous Amon Düül II. After both groups disbanded in the 1970s, some of the original members reunited in the 1980s under the name Amon Düül again, though this incarnation is commonly referred to as Amon Düül (UK) to avoid confusion with the original one.

Issued under the name Amon Düül in 1970, Paradieswärts Düül has very little to do with any previous records released under that aggregate’s name. In fact, it is not hard to see how this record tanked commercially back when it was released. By the time this album hit shelves, the name Amon Düül meant pretty much one thing: low-fidelity recordings taken piecemeal from a legendary, hypnotically intense communal psych-out held by the German political commune of the same name in 1968

Paradieswärts Düül is a 1970 psychedelic rock album by the German band Amon Düül. It was the final Amon Düül (I) album to be recorded. In contrast to the communal, free-form improvisations of the earlier Amon Düül albums (generally thought to have all been recorded in a single "jam session" with various commune members coming and going throughout), Paradieswarts Düül was recorded with a smaller, more stable lineup of musicians. The pastoral, folk-influenced sound of the record has been compared to the gentler work of American bands Love and The Velvet Underground

Amon Duul as opposed to Amon Duul II was one of the more maligned Krautrock groups. But then you have to bear in mind this Amon Duul were the non-musical faction of the commune, who happened to record several hours of late night jams that leaked out and got released. Chris Karrer (or was it John Wienzierl?), unsurprisingly, isn't exactly happy with those Amon Duul recordings floating about feeling that Amon Duul II is the real deal. Of course Amon Duul II made some of the finest Krautrock ever, especially Phallus Dei, Yeti, Tanz der Lemminge, and Wolf City. And even Carnival in Babylon is rather good. There is one Amon Duul (not Amon Duul II) album not from those 1968 recording sessions, and that's Paradieswarts Duul. This was recorded at the end of 1970, released in 1971 on Ohr, and for many people's tastes, this is by far the best thing Amon Duul ever did. I guess if you can't stand the noisy bongo fests of their other albums, then this is your best bet. They go for more of a psych folk direction. A great example is "Love is Peace", complete with hippie lyrics. "Paramecanische Welt" bears more than a passing resemblance to "Sandoz In the Rain" from ADII's Yeti. I guess that's no surprise as some members ADI appeared on "Sandoz" so to return the favor, Chris Karrer and John Wienzierl appear on "Paramecanische Welt". This album does have a much cleaner sound and production. The music pretty much stays the same pace throughout, I guess it's no surprise given that this faction of Amon Duul were basically non-musicians (although no doubt, they can play better than me). The vocals aren't that great (I'm not surprised), but on the other hand, I have no problem with them. Also unsurprisingly the music loses focus at times. This album is probably not at the top of your list, but it's actually not bad, but I didn't buy this expecting the greatness of Amon Duul II at their best either.
